Description
Product Type
Oral anthelmintic for the treatment of gastro-intestinal roundworms in sheep
Description and Composition
ZOLVIX® contains 25 mg/mL monepantel, the first member of the novel class of anthelmintics, the Amino-Acetonitrile Derivatives (AADs), discovered in the year 2000 and developed by Novartis Animal Health. ZOLVIX® is a convenient low volume, high safety margin (10x dose rate) oral drench suitable for the control of gastro-intestinal nematode parasites (roundworms) in all classes of sheep.
Properties
AADs have a completely unique mode of action compared to all other anthelmintics available on the market.
Monepantel causes a paralysis of the worms by binding to a specific receptor that is only found in nematode parasites (roundworms). It is believed that the high margin of safety in sheep and environmental safety is attributable to the fact that the specific receptor for the AADs has not been found in any animal species.
Indications
ZOLVIX® is a ready-to-use oral solution.
Dosage and Administration
Check dose rates and drench gun before treatment commences. The dose for sheep and lambs is 0.5 mL/5 kg (1 mL/10 kg) (equivalent to 2.5 mg monepantel/kg liveweight). Do not under dose. Drench sheep orally, using a Novartis recommended drench gun.
