Cattle are one of the major livestock species in many countries. The world cattle population is estimated at approximatively 1.5 billion animals, more than 1 billion of them being located in tropical and subtropical countries.
Sheep ›
The global sheep population is 1.8 billion. Although economically less important than cattle, they play a major role in many countries. They require less care and grow under tougher environmental conditions.
Pig ›
Pig production is an important economical factor in many countries worldwide. The structure of the pig producing farms is changing. Herd sizes are increasing and the total number of holdings is falling.
Poultry ›
Poultry provide a substantial part of the global demand of proteins of animal origin. Around 34 bio broilers, 4000 mio layers, 800 mio broiler breeders, 600 mio turkeys and 800 mio ducks are reared annually.
